a chat with Joni Eareckson Tada!

Hey [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], a couple weeks ago my friend Scott Stonehouse preached at our church and said something that really resonated with me. He said:

Some people are coming out of a season of trouble. Some are experiencing trouble right now. For everybody else, it's coming your way.

In other words:

Suffering is part of this life.

That's not meant to be a discouragement to you. In fact, Jesus warns his disciples in John 16:33 that they will have trouble but that they should "take heart! For I have overcome the world."

I've experienced my fair share of suffering and I'm sure you have too, but there are few people I know who have had to endure as much constant suffering as Joni Eareckson Tada.

Paralyzed at the age of 17, she endured painful therapy and severe depression. Through it all, she had to come to grips with the fact that the pain would never subside and she would never be able to live unassisted again.

Her story is a story of hope. It's a story of relying on God's promises. And throughout our conversation, it's amazing to hear how much Scripture she recites (and even sings!).

📣 Joni Eareckson Tada's Secret to Suffering Well

What does it mean to "steward your suffering?" Nobody knows this better than Joni Eareckson Tada, who also happens to be an avid memorizer of Bible verses. This is an amazing conversation you won't want to miss!

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to never be able to walk on my own, bathe on my own or endure chronic pain. Joni story is so hard to hear.

But I also know that suffering tends to melt away all the things that distract us from what really matters - knowing and serving a God who will ultimately heal all things.
