better than giving out tracts

Hey [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], if you've grown up in the church like I have, you've probably been exposed to various ways of sharing your faith, aka "evangelism". There are numerous strategies, but one of the most challenging to me was walking up to a complete stranger and starting the conversation by asking:

Do you know where you're going when you die?

I'm not saying it's a bad strategy or even that it's ineffective, but for me it always felt really awkward and forced. Maybe even a little obnoxious?

Then there's the other side of the evangelism spectrum, where I've heard people talking about how they don't want to offend anybody. In some circles this is jokingly referred to as "friendship evangelism".

"If I live my life in a God-honoring way for long enough, one day they'll magically realize what they're missing and ask me how to become a Christian."

Now I believe God can use our witness in everyday life to point others to Him. But as you can imagine, this approach doesn't often lead where we hope it does. So I've been left wondering...

Is there any happy medium between these two?

A number of years ago, I met with a man named Kevin King who does ministry in New York City. I recently read his book and immediately thought, "This is it...this is what I was looking for!"

If you've ever felt the desire to be a stronger witness for Christ in your life, but you don't always feel confident to share your faith or you feel uncomfortable with confrontational ways of evangelism, this week's chat with Kevin King is a must-watch.

📣 a BETTER to share your faith?

In this conversation with Kevin King, author of Living Out Loud, Josh explores a different approach to evangelism and how you can seamlessly use the Scripture you memorize in daily conversation.

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.

— 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NIV)

How Japanese Students Remember Everything

Sue shared a helpful 9-minute video on remembering what you study—bringing together ideas we often talk about here, like spaced repetition and getting 1% better each day. Several members appreciated hearing these familiar principles woven together in one short, practical resource, with a few fresh insights on Scripture internalization and review. Check out the post and video here.

One Book or Many?

Emily raised a question many of us have wrestled with: is it better to focus on one book at a time, or is it okay to memorize across multiple books and psalms at once? Her question sparked a helpful reminder that Scripture memory isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that faithfulness matters more than the “perfect” plan. Do you tend to focus on one passage at a time—or do you memorize in parallel? What’s worked best for you? Join the discussion here.

Stay Warm! 🥶 🥶

Many parts of the US are getting slammed with cold and snow this weekend. Be sure to stay safe and warm!

One of my favorite hoodies in my closet is this Memorize What Matters hoodie. It's super-comfortable and it's a great conversation starter!

We're nearing the end of our first 7-day challenge of the year and if you missed out, don't worry - we'll have another one in March! It's just one of many reasons why you need to make sure you're active in our online community!
