now THIS is talent

Hey [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], yesterday I had the joy of sitting as a proud parent watching my oldest son win a gold medal with his volleyball team. This group of boys is incredibly talented and it's been fun seeing them grow in both athletic ability and relational maturity.

And, of course, I'm super proud of my son. 😉

For you, it may not be volleyball - it could be academics, your career or music - but the Lord has given you unique talents and abilities. Even if you don't acknowledge them, these talents are important to what you can offer in this world.

Another example of this is Matthias Wilder.

I've met some amazing musicians and concert pianists throughout my life, but Matthias is the first one I've met who uses this talent to accompany his own Scripture recitation!

Seriously, you have to watch it to understand and appreciate what I'm talking about.

Matthias is a former Mormon and in my conversation with him he not only shares the one thing that caused him to leave Mormonism but also how he approaches his concert recitations of the Bible.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

What's Happening in the Community

Starting Small, Staying Faithful

Some questions hit home for a lot of us… and Andrew asked one of them this week. He shared that he loves the idea of long-form Bible memorization, but between work, family, and life, he’s struggled to gain momentum lately. He asked: Where should I start? How do I set goals that aren’t too ambitious so I can actually build success over time?

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by big Bible memory goals or discouraged trying to “do more,” this discussion is full of practical wisdom and honest encouragement. Join the conversation here.

When Memory Palaces Don’t Click

Not everyone memorizes the same way… and Rachel brought up such an important question this week.

She shared that she’s much more auditory than visual and wonders if methods like the memory palace just may not fit the way her brain works. While she’s had success memorizing individual verses, she’s now hoping to move into longer passages and is looking for approaches that work better for auditory learners.

The responses on this one are encouraging and practical, especially if you’ve ever felt like the “popular” memory methods just don’t click for you. Check it out here

A Simple System That's Working

New member Mark shared his detailed Scripture memory review system this week… and wow, there are some gems in here.

From “7-7’s, 7-3’s, and 7-1’s” to audio review in his own voice, his process is thoughtful, practical, and built around consistency over time.

If you love hearing how other people actually do long-term review and retention, this thread is worth checking out.

We NEED Reviews!

Right now, the Memorize What Matters podcast is stuck at 90 reviews on Apple Podcast. If you're a podcast listener and you use Apple Podcasts, we need your help getting to 100 reviews before Scripture Sync (June 20). It only takes 3 minutes to click through and leave a rating and review.

We're about 1 month away from Scripture Sync 2026. If you're going, I can't wait to see you there and if you're not, I would covet your prayers. There is still so much planning left to do and not a lot of time!

Have a great weekend!
