stop caring about "perceived perfection"

Hey [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], I remember sitting in the audience last year listening to my friend Keith Ferrin talk at Scripture Sync and thinking to myself "My goodness...this is incredible!" My favorite line is what he said at the very end:

May we pursue persistent progress, not some perception of perfection.

Aside from being a great alliteration, it was a great reminder to the perfectionist in me. As I memorize the Bible, I often think that getting the words in the right order is the most important thing.

It's not.

The important thing is knowing both the Word and the Author who gave it to us. We want to open the Bible not to ingest information, but to build a relationship. Amen?

I'm sharing this talk that Keith gave at Scripture Sync Dallas last year for two reasons:

  1. It's amazing. Seriously, it's only 20 minutes long and it will change the way you approach the Bible, especially for memory.
  2. I want you to experience what it would be like to join us for Scripture Sync next year. 😊

There's still a chance to get discounted tickets for the 2-day event happening in June, and I promise it will be a memorable and inspiring weekend.

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT

What's Happening in our Community

Refining Memory Methods

Ken, one of our community members, is exploring how to use different memorization methods more effectively. After years of rote memorization, he’s now trying the first-letter method while working through Titus 1 and wondering when to make the switch. Should you memorize a section first or use the first-letter grid from the start? It’s a question many of us face as we grow in our memory practice. Join the conversation here.

7-Day Challenge Starts January 19

One of our most-loved rhythms in the community is coming back soon. The 7-Day Challenge will start January 19th. This focused week is a powerful way to reset, build momentum, and experience what’s possible with just a short daily commitment. Whether you’re brand new or have been memorizing for years, the challenge meets you right where you are. Join the challenge here!

52 Bible Verse Cards!

Did you know that we've partnered with We Learn Truth to provide physical review cards you can purchase that follow along with our 52 verses that we're memorizing for 2026? They're available in both NIV and ESV and include the full verse on one side and the first letter version on the other. Check it out!

I hope you enjoyed hearing Keith's talk as much as I did. And go ahead and leave a comment on the video to let him know that you'd like him to come back this year. I'm still trying to convince him to put it on his calendar and I could use your help ;)

God bless,
